I don't know why people have had problems with these breaking or bending. I've traveled a LOT of miles with these holding the fronts of my kayaks. I've only had 1 break, and that was because it slipped out of place and was rubbed by the tire. My fault for not noticing it loose. If you're just using these in addition to kayak racks than they don't need to be super tight. Just taunt. If they go slack than your kayak probably slid forward at a stop or slow down. Tighten your kayak straps and then tighten this. I ordered a second time for my boyfriend to put a kayak on his car, since another we bought wasn't long enough. These are handy for holding your kayak nose down and keeping tabs on your kayak that you can't see. I've been using them for over a year, haven't had any defect malfunctions. Only operator error.Excellent for kayaking tie downs for the bow and stern. They work great, easy on, easy off, we’ll constructed and sturdy.thank youAbsolutely love these tie downs. Easy to use and secures kayaks and camping equipment on my trailer. Best decision ever!So far love them but only time will tell see how the sun and the river water treats them return in a few months and I’ll give a good reviewEasy to use for tying down kayaks. Much easier than the more expensive straps.Keep these in my truck and have come in handy on many occasions. Durable and easy to use. Great value.I can't really comment on durability yet I only had them a couple weeks and used once. Used to hold down a car trunk lid with an oversized load. There was a bit of give in the tension during a thirty minute drive. Not sure why.Certainly would not feel safe with these plastic sided pulley systems holding a canoe on a roof rack! DissapointedDo not buy!!! Real and serious safety issue, as metal hooks bend and fail with minimal strain. Ratchet mechanism can hit you in the face, or in my case, damage my car. The hooks can also just as easily fail from the added strain of wind pressure during driving. The hooks are made from cheap, soft metal that is totally unsuitable for the application.A product recall is called for here. Very solid. I use them to hold our two kayaks on my SUV. The locking mechanism is great. Perfect length. Highly recommended! These work well on my 15.5ft canoe to hold down the very front. I have done two 4hr road trips and they have worked great.
